Andrew Worboys and Queenie van de Zandt met in 1995, when Queenie was looking for a pianist to work with her on a cabaret show based on the songs of Joni Mitchell.  This project came to an abrupt end when Andrew accepted a job to work for Phantom Records - a record company based in Hong Kong.  They both thought, that would be the end of their professional association, but fate would have her way.  Later that same year Queenie was cast in the Asian/South African tour of the musical Les Misérables.

Whilst the show was in Hong Kong, Queenie caught up with Andrew and while the show was in town, they wrote and recorded six songs together, his music to her lyrics.  They were both thrilled with the results of their partnership and when her tour finished Queenie went back to Hong Kong where she and Andrew wrote and recorded six more songs.  Weaving together their experience and varied musical styles, Andrew and Queenie's partnership resulted in the album Amazon Woman, an album of stories told through an eclectic mix of contemporary folk songs, with world, jazz and pop influences.

This is what the critics have had to say:

“...van de Zandt has a great deal of talent, not only as a singer but as a lyricist...Years of stage experience have meant a definite ability to sell a song, van de Zandt having a voice full of confidence and technical skills to spare...you can hear echoes of (Mary) Black’s crisp enunciation and hints of (Joni) Mitchell’s harmonic complexity.”

Graham McDonald
(Canberra Times)

“She is blessed with a fine singing voice...which reflectively blends jazz and folk...”

Rama Gaind
(Belconnen Chronicle)

“Queenie van de Zandt’s vocals are as clear and sweet as Wendy Matthews on a bright autumn day.”

Craig Dent
