“Let joy be unconfined music theatre addicts. By popular demand Queenie van de Zandt has released a second album…based on her past show: Cabaret in 12 Easy Steps. The First Lady of the Australian cabaret industry, Ms van de Zandt…is best noted for her versatility with a lyric, her dazzling tone, and, of course, her powerhouse vocals. One of the biggest voices in Australia by far…Queenie van de Zandt - Live in Cabaret already looks set to be the “must have” Australian music theatre artist album of the year. Featuring songs by Tim Minchin, Eddie Perfect and Queenie herself, the album also showcases capably one of our finest cabaret voices. Highlights on the album include “Before the Crash” and “Don’t Miss the Show” from the Australian musical Renaissance Bloke (Peter J. Casey), “Over the Rainbow,” “Time After Time” and also a performance of “Defying Gravity” (from Wicked).

As a recording artist, Queenie has previously released a self-penned, studio album titled Amazon Woman. Though albums by musical theatre performers in Australia are infrequent enough as it is, an album of self-penned songs, especially from a leading lady of Queenie’s magnitude, is a veritable needle in a haystack! In a marketplace usually dominated by “greatest hits” albums of showstoppers, and “my favourite playlist” type albums of re-arranged pop hits and unknown curiosities, Ms van de Zandt remains in this respect unique. Though Amazon Woman at 18 years of age verges, in places, on a period piece, it’s also a remarkable piece of musicianship showcasing some really quite exceptional song writing.

“Queenie’s vocals throughout, of course, are utter magic.”
